My Instagram obsession continues

Sands Point Preserve

Sands Point is one of the few beaches in LI that allows dogs to be on it. The preserve also includes a series of easy nature trails.

In the summer, there are many people and canine that enjoying it. However, when we went, it was still relatively empty and a bit chilly. Nonetheless, we enjoyed the privacy and the girls had a blast!

Happy belated Chinese New Year!

Lilo's parents brought back some presents from Asia for the girls!

They are rocking their chi paos and there is also a pouch sewn on the outfit like a red evelope.

Adorbs!!!

This was Lilo's birthday present this year and she loved it to death!

Smokie the Bear & Sumo

Smokie is a 53" gigantic teddy bear. Sumo is our 50lb bull dog.

Together, they're really frickin' cute!

Mochi & Lilo's Dos Birthday!

Mochi and Lilo's birthday is at the tail end of October so this post is a bit belated. A few friends came over and we celebrated their birthday in the typical lavishing of toys and treats.

So really... it was just like any other day for them. :)

Above photos were snapped while we ate dinner. All three of them look a bit impatient for the good part to start!

Gigantic pile of birthday presents for the girls! Their bro, Sumo had to test drive the toys of course! One toy per person who attends really does pile up.

Yum, all those cake and toys make Sumo thirsty and sleepy.

Backpacking over Thanksgiving Weekend: Cornell-Wittenberg-Slide Loop

Img_8032

We set out with Mochi for a 3-Day 2-Night, 15m backpacking trek through one of Catskills most challenging trails after some serious tryptophan overdose.

Our 2nd day included hiking over 3 peaks, including Slide Mountain, which is Catskills tallest peak. Mochi was a trooper the entire time. She jumped giant rock scrambles 4 times her height with the agility of a mountain goat. (The same cannot be said for the humans that were with her...)

Hanging out on a cliff ledge - Wondering what is taking us so long with that 15-foot free climb needed to get across.

Quick naptime, mid-hike!

Always make sure to refill from water sources every chance you get.

Because you never know when the next water source will be. We encountered the very precarious situation of almost running out of water and not knowing for sure if we'd be able to obtain more during our hike between Cornell and Slide.

We finally reached the next water source before running completely out. Humans cheered, Mochi napped. :-)

Mochi hanging off a cliff in a small indentation that just happens to cradle her body for a quick nap while we filled up on water at a watersource.

There is a gigantic set of stone staircases right at the last leg of the hike. Mochi seemed to know the end was near and sprinted ahead of us.

Can you spot the Mochi?

Doggie Kayaking in the Hudson Highlands

One of the highlights of our summer was taking Mochi & Lilo kayaking in Upstate NY.

It was the second time introducing the girls to a large body of water but they enjoyed it significantly more because this time, their humans readily went in with them.

I won't babble too much and will let the video speak for itself. Apologies for the crappy editing, it's just a bunch of iPhone videos spliced together... :)

Camping at Deerpark KOA

We've always enjoyed both Car Camping and Backpacking and the different aspects they allow us to experience. Sometimes it's just nice to bring the entire kitchen sink with you to sleep under the stars. So off we packed our cars with almost everything we owned and headed off to Deerpark KOA for the weekend.

Deerpark KOA is definitely the most luxurious and comfortable campgrounds we've ever booked a spot at. I guess being one of the closest KOA campgrounds to New York City, they wanted to offer the most to city dwellers trying to "rough it". And honestly, the campground restrooms were nicer than some of the motels we've stayed at. I'm talking automatic timed heating in private rooms with shower and toilets that were sparkly clean.

To prevent complete shame, we pre-booked one of the more remotely located site on the campground which was secluded and right between a giant fishing pond and a huge grass meadow. Mochi and Lilo had grand ol' time rolling around in the grass all weekend.
